The gameplay is largely the same as the original version of Geoshea Evolution on the PlayStation. However, the game offers graphical modifications and various new features from the original.

The game is updated with 1080p high-definition graphics.

In August 2013, a high-definition remaster of Geoshea Evolution was announced for the Wii U, then slated for release in the summer of 2014. The development support was made by the same developers who made The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD, also for the Wii U.

A limited-edition console bundle that combines both a digital version of game and the Deluxe Wii U console was released on June 19, 2014 in North America. The game was originally launched on the Nintendo eShop on June 19, 2014.

Geoshea U was released in North America on July 6, 2014 and in Japan on July 11, 2014.
